Both dormitory and renting an apartment have some advantages and disadvantages. The minimum rent compared to a city that you want to live in, starts from 3000 Turkish Lira. The costs of electricity, water and gas, totally depends on the student usage. But we can say that the minimum electricity bill for 1+1 apartment for 1 person starts from 380 Turkish Lira. People in North Cyprus buy gas capsules because there are no gas pipelines here. Each capsule in 2022 costs between 320 to 350 Turkish Lira. About the water, it should be mentioned that every tenant must get a water card from her/his landlord and charge it in municipalities through related individuals or charging machines. Keep in mind that the amount of charging is optional. The more you charge, the more water you have. After Charging you mustput the card in your water device and push the button. Then your tank starts to refill.

Student’s costs of food
If a student is living in a dormitory, some of them provide only main meals or at least one meal for students. They (students) are responsible for their other foods and snacks. But if a student has rented an apartment, the minimum costs of her/his food and meals would be 1500 to 2000 Turkish Lira, monthly. It should be considered that this price is changeable and can be lower than 1500 Turkish Lira or more than 2000 Turkish Lira. Also the minimum cost of a meal in a restaurant for 1 person equals 70 Turkish Lira.

Student’s costs of transportation
Every university in North Cyprus has free transportation (buses) for their students and it is only limited to the university. There are 3 ways of transportation besides university buses. The first option is to rent a car. Students can rent a car once they get their Turkish Cypriot driving license. The cost of renting a car is relatively suitable, because students can also share the price with their friends. The second option is a taxi. This option is not suitable unless in emergencies. Because the taxi fees start from 100 Turkish Lira (Jan, 2023). Third option is to use public transportation and the fees also start from19 Turkish Lira (Jan, 2023). This option is the most suitable option for transportation.

Students can use the internet in two types.
Using internet packages + local and international calls (starts from 150 Turkish Lira, monthly).
Using home internet (465 to 615 Turkish Lira, 3 months).
The first option is not suitable because after one month it will be finished whether you use your internet or local and international calls or not. Second option is not only affordable but also you have unlimited internet data.

Student’s cost of treatment and insurance
Every student will be insured once they get their student visa. North Cyprus is one of those countries which is affordable in terms of residency and it has several clinics and hospitals.
