North Cyprus Introduction - Part 1

Cyprus is an island located in the south of Turkey. The capital of North Cyprus is known as Lefkoşa (North Nicosia).
Nicosia is the only capital city in the world that is divided into two parts, north and south. The southern part is Nicosia and the northern part is Lefkoşa (North Nicosia). The language of the people of Northern Cyprus is Turkish, but you could see that some of them are also familiar with Greek. Turkey is the only country that recognizes North Cyprus and on the other hand it has no international relations. The cost of living in North Cyprus is also affordable. Since this island is the fifth safest island in the world, many people choose it as a good destination for living from all over the world. A good thing to know is that the rate of unemployment is under 5%. 
After Sicily and Sardinia, Cyprus is the Third largest island that is located in the east of Mediterranean. Geographically, its distance with Turkey is 70 km, 100 km to Syria, 370 km to Egypt, 170 km to Palestine and Lebanon, and finally 950 km to Greece. The division of Cyprus into two parts, dates back to 1960 and also the northern part of Cyprus became independent in 1974 as “Turkish Republic of North Cyprus”. According to the latest statistics in 2021, the population of North Cyprus was 313,626. Every year many tourists visit North Cyprus from all over the world. This island is famous not only for its warm beaches, but also for its green nature and high mountains.

Northern Cyprus Geography
This Sunny island has several sandy beaches, many beautiful mountains and huge mesmerizing nature. The highest point of Cyprus is Selvili mountains, with a height of 3357 feet, located in Kyrenia, with a perfect view. There is a village called “Mesaoria '', located at the Southside of Kyrenia’s mountains that divided the capital city of the island, into two parts. Another big city of North Cyprus is Guzelyurt, which is famous for its citrus fruits. The first touristic city in North Cyprus is Kyrenia and the second one is Famagusta which is located at the east of the island. North Cyprus is a good place for those who love warm and humid weather. 

North Cyprus History
It can be said that due to the cultural differences between the Greek Cypriot people and the Turkish Cypriot people in the years 1963 to 1974, the crisis between them caused a war and conflict between these two peoples. With the Turkey military support, this island was finally divided into two separate parts (North and South) in 1974. The north part belongs to Turkish Cypriot people and the south part belongs to Greek Cypriot people. The "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" took its official form in 1983 and became an independent country in the same year. In 1975, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus issued a request based on its independence, but later, the United Nations, the Republic of Cyprus and the International Assembly did not approve this request. After eight years of unsuccessful negotiations with the president of the Republic of Cyprus, In November 1983, Northern Cyprus became independent as the "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" or (TRNC). This happened while 65% of Turkish Cypriots were in favor and on the other hand 76% of Greek Cypriots and the United Nations were against this issue. A peace agreement was announced to North and South Cyprus along with a referendum in 2004 by the United Nations, but the presidents of North and South Cyprus rejected it. This happened while Turkish Cypriot people expressed their positive feeling related to the peace agreement but Greek Cypriot people didn't. At the end, the Republic of Cyprus became a member of the European Union but the status of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus became uncertain. 

Northern Cyprus Climate
Cold weather and rain are at the medium level on this island. In summer, the weather is hot and its degree of humidity increases and it happens from mid-June to July. Also the temperature even reaches to 30 degrees Celsius. So it would be better to spend your day in cool places. Nature reaches its most beauty in spring. It is also rare that the temperature drops below 3 or 4 degrees at this time of the year. The best season to visit this beautiful and lovely island is spring and autumn because the weather is very mild and pleasant.

Government
The president in North Cyprus will preside for 5 years. "Ersin Tatar" who has been elected by the people of North Cyprus is now the president of this country. Northern Cyprus has a legislature with 50 members. The relative representatives choose the members of the legislature from six electoral ways. It should be noted that women are also active in political fields, but they have limited powers in participating in political issues.
